The need to monitor expanding volumes of 10 Gbps traffic is straining CAPEX budgets due to the high cost of 10G monitoring

tools. The iLink Agg
xStream helps you leverage your monitoring tool investments by:
- Enabling existing 1G tools to be applied to 10G traffic
- Providing the ability to take advantage of the full bandwidth of 10G tools
- Supplying more port density than any other 1U form factor link aggregator
The iLink Agg
xStream is a link aggregator that combines traffic from as many as 20 network links or Span ports and sends it to four monitoring tools. Each of its 24 SFP+ ports accepts both 10G SFP+ and 1G-SFP transceivers, enabling 10G and 1G links, Span ports, and monitoring appliances to interconnect in any mix of speeds, including different fiber and copper media types. The iLink Agg
xStream automatically performs all data-rate and media-type conversions, enabling 10G traffic to be sent to 1G appliances, and 1G traffic to 10G tools. This capability protects your security appliance investment, because the iLink Agg Xstream enables you to apply your existing arsenal of 1G monitoring tools to your new 10G traffic links. You can aggregate the traffic from multiple 1G links and low-utilization 10G links to fill up the bandwidth of expensive 10G tools.
Flexible Port Mapping
The iLink Agg xStream device supports fully configurable port mapping, so it can provide many other configurations in addition to 20 network ports to four monitor ports. Preloaded aggregation configurations include:
- A single 20x4 link Aggregator
- Dual 10x2 aggregators
- Quad 4x2 aggregators
Preloaded regeneration configurations include:
- 1-to-23
- Dual 1-to-11
- Quad 1-to-5
In addition, any port can function as a network port or a monitor port, so you can attach more than four monitoring tools or more than 20 network links, if required. Splitting the cables into separate transmit and receive fibers makes a total of 24 network inputs and 24 monitor outputs available for concurrent use. The network inputs can be connected to external Taps or switch Span ports. Direct in-line link connections are not supported.
Information Intelligence
iTap functionality provides RMON traffic statistics so you can view link utilization levels and error rates in real time. A 10/100/1000 management port enables remote management and monitoring from anywhere in the network, giving you the information you need to quickly respond to network events.
Dual Power Supplies
The iLink Agg xStream has two independent power supplies that provide fault tolerance: If one power supply loses power, the unit continues operating on the remaining supply. The power supply modules are hot-swappable, so your monitoring capability does not need to be interrupted if a power supply needs replacement. Both universal AC and -48VDC (telco) models are available.
Easy Configuration
Indigo™ management software provides a command-line interface (CLI) for setting iLink Agg xStream parameters and checking status and traffic statistics with a few keystrokes. The CLI can be accessed locally through an RS232 serial port, or remotely with a secure SSH connection. GUI management interfaces will be available in the near future.
Security and Reliability
The iLink Agg xStream is a secure and reliable appliance that delivers unsurpassed monitoring access flexibility. It handles network traffic entirely in hardware, so there is no software to be loaded, maintained, or compromised. (The secure embedded management firmware cannot disrupt the network data path.) Configuration variables and TapFlow filters can be changed only through the device's management port, so your monitoring access is immune to viruses, worms, and other attacks that pass through the iLink Agg xStream network ports. The iLink Agg xStream maintains its configuration when power is absent, making it a true appliance.
Zero Dropped Packets
The iLink Agg xStream scans incoming traffic from the network ports on a first-in-first-out basis. The scan rate is optimized to ensure that no packets are dropped as long as the sum of data rates on the network ports does not exceed the monitoring port capacity of 10 Gbps (or 1 Gbps for monitor ports with 1G SFP transceivers).
Doing Our Part
Net Optics is dedicated to ensuring user safety and developing products that are environmentally friendly. The iLink Agg xStream adheres to UL and CE safety certifications; FCC, VCCI, and C-Tick EMC certifications; and RoHS and WEEE environmental certifications.
