How xFilter Optimizes Packets for Optimized Network Monitoring
The xFilter serves as a gateway for pass-through network data streams and a termination point for traffic that has been encapsulated by such protocols as VXLAN, Cisco FabricPath, ER-SPAN, LTE/GTP, PPPoE, MPLS, or other tunneling technologies. It works at exceptionally high throughput to decapsulate traffic, then reassembles fragmented packets. After decapsulation, xFilter can perform various packet operations such as header removal and VLAN tagging. It can then forward packets to an egress port (and optionally a VLAN), as determined by your filtering rules. The appliance can also encapsulate and forward traffic to any policy-based routable destination.
With its high port density (up to 12 10G ports), the multi-functional xFilter can strip complex traffic down to simple data streams. It removes MPLS headers and VN-Tag headers, performs VN-Tag mapping of virtual interface IDs, decapsulates and strips Cisco FabricPath headers, tags VLANs to identify a packet’s source or destination, filters/analyzes packets to control access based on defined criteria—and much more. This efficient appliance is essential to network security and productivity, enabling you to gain full value from your monitoring tools.
