SANTA CLARA, Calif. – December 4, 2009 – Net Optics, Inc., the global leader in intelligent network monitoring access solutions, today announced the company has partnered with Laura Chappell, network security expert and founder of the Protocol Analysis Institute and Chappell University, to host Summit ‘09, the industry’s pre-eminent educational series for users of Wireshark®.  Summit ‘09 is Chappell’s only live event of the year, and will take place December 7-9, 2009 at the Net Optics headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif.  Highlighting the event will be a presentation by Wireshark creator Gerald Combs.

The three-day summit will combine lectures with hands-on lab exercises, along with “scenario-based” procedures in three unique network assignments. Net Optics Director of Product Innovation, Dennis Carpio, will provide an overview of monitoring-access methodologies and how these solutions have been deployed in live production networks.  Combs will discuss Wireshark's latest features and will be available for Q&A.  Wireshark is the world's most popular network protocol analyzer.  It has a rich and powerful feature set and runs on most computing platforms including Windows, OS X, Linux, and UNIX. Network professionals, security experts, developers, and educators around the world use this freely available open source tool for improving network performance and security.

“Net Optics is an ideal choice to host Summit ’09 because of the synergy between the Net Optics product line and my network security and forensics curriculum,” said Chappell.  “Achieving 100 percent visibility into network traffic is essential. By leveraging solutions such as those provided by Net Optics in conjunction with Wireshark and other tools used for network-traffic analysis, organizations can significantly improve operational efficiency by streamlining the troubleshooting process, enabling IT staff to more quickly resolve network issues.”

“Laura is one of the most highly respected experts in the field of protocol analysis and we’re honored that she has partnered with us to further the education of today’s IT professionals,” said Bob Shaw, president and CEO of Net Optics.  “We look forward to three-days of real-world training designed to help attendees enhance the performance and security of their networks.”
