Last week, Gartner’s Jonah Kowall and Debra Curtis published the vendor landscape for application aware Network Performance Monitoring and Network Packet Brokers. While Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) is a well-established market which exist for a long time, application aware NPM are new solutions that were born due in order to fulfill the need for application-centric performance analytics and troubleshooting. Application-aware NPM products are more sophisticated than traditional NPM products and have deeper views and insights into the applications and how the applications are being used.

Net Optics is listed as a solution vendor in this market.

The other market, Network Packet Brokers (NPB) is a new market and it include products and solutions that ease implementation and management of NPM and related technologies, and are often part of NPM system design.

Net Optics, one of the creators of this market and most innovative company in this space is listed as a solution vendor.

I recommend to read this report. It lists the advantages of using network packet brokers for better visibility into NPM and also how it improves the longevity of tool investments spanning network performance monitoring (NPM), application performance monitoring (APM), security, network forensics and other monitoring technologies that require packet data.
